United States Golf Teachers Federation

The United States Golf Teachers Federation (USGTF) was founded in 1989 by Geoff Bryant, to train and certify golf teaching professionals. The USGTF has over 12,000 members in the United States and is a part of the World Golf Teachers Federation. Prior to 1989, the only way to become an accredited golf teacher was to go through a process that lasted several years through the PGA of America or the LPGA. The USGTF model was based on those of tennis and skiing, whose teachers all go through a one-week seminar to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities.

The USGTF offers four levels of certification: 1 - Affiliate; 2 - Associate; 3 - Fully Certified; 4 - Master Golf Teaching Professional. Affiliate members are qualified to teach the full swing to beginners; Associates are qualified to teach all phases of the swing to average players; Fully certified members are qualified to teach all phases of the game to advanced players; Master Golf Teaching Professionals have demonstrated a knowledge and ability of the highest order.

The United States Golf Teachers Cup is the national championship event of the USGTF, and is played annually at different venues around the United States. Every two years, the World Golf Teachers Cup, the national championship event of the World Golf Teachers Federation, is held at different venues around the world.

USGTF members can be found in all facets of the golf business in all 50 states, including teaching professional, directors of golf, and club managers. Geoff Bryant, founder, is the current president, and the organization is based in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
